Eli Manning Recalls Peyton's Recovery
Clark to fill in for Clady as Manning's protector
Eli did not doubt that his brother would work as hard as necessary to recover. But the two-time Super Bowl MVP admitted that he wondered what would happen when Peyton actually returned to play in a football game. "It's one thing throwing, and just dropping back and throwing, then avoiding the rush and throwing in awkward positions -- and you can't step into it," Eli said. "Can you get the same strength on the throw that you normally can to be successful?" Dustin Bradford/Getty Images Peyton Manning tied an NFL single-game record with 7 touchdown passes in Week 1 against the Ravens. But Peyton has erased any doubts, especially after tying an NFL single-game record with seven touchdown passes in Thursday's season-opening blowout victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens . Peyton, who passed for 462 yards against Baltimore, was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for a league-record 24th time Wednesday. The four-time league MVP also enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Broncos in 2012, when he passed for 4,659 yards and 37 touchdowns. "He's obviously back and full throttle," Eli said.
Peyton still unbeaten vs. brother Eli
Its a strange feeling, he said of getting the best of his brother again. Its not quite as enjoyable as it would be if you were beating somebody else. The Broncos, who led 10-9 at halftime, scored four second-half touchdowns to open a 38-16 advantage. Manning, 37, threw touchdown passes to Wes Welker and Julius Thomas, while Knowshon Moreno scored the second of his two rushing touchdowns and Trindon Holliday added an 81-yard punt return for a score that sent many Giants fans heading for the exits with just over 10 minutes left. Topping 40 The Broncos, who rolled past the Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens 49-27 in the NFLs season opener, have now scored more than 40 points in consecutive games for the first time since 1976. Denver has won 13 straight regular-season games dating back to last year, including seven on the road. Any time you go on the road and win on the road in a hostile environment like this, its a big thing, Welker said.
Peyton gets the best of Eli again, Denver 41-23
Still, Rodgers has averaged 42 touchdown passes, compared to just seven picks for 4,469 yards the past two seasons. Both quarterbacks know how it feels to be MVP, both in the regular season and in the Super Bowl. Manning has won the NFL MVP award four times (2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009). He was also the MVP of Super Bowl XLI.Rodgers won the NFL MVP award in 2011 and was MVP of Super Bowl XLV. Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports Manning also finished second in NFL MVP voting in 2012 with 19.5 votes, as running back Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings won the award with 30.5 votes. Rodgers didn't get a vote, but he sure should have from the 50 media members who voted on the award. Rodgers actually had better numbers than Manning in some key categories.
Early NFL Prediction: Will Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers Win MVP Award?
The most important stop came with 3:55 left. Tony Romo threw three straight incompletions to force Bailey to hit a 53-yarder to pull within 17-16, but the Cowboys defense couldn't get the ball back quickly enough to have a shot at a winning drive. Romo finished 30 of 42 for 298 yards for the Cowboys (1-1). His favorite target was Dez Bryant , who had nine catches for 141 yards and their only touchdown. Packers 38, Redskins 30 Aaron Rodgers threw for a career-high 480 yards and four touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers used a big first half against Washington to win their home opener. Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III threw for 320 yards and three second-half touchdowns. Pierre Garcon had 143 yards receiving and a touchdown. But it was too little, too late after Washington (0-2) fell short again after being outplayed early for a second straight week.
Manning NFL Matchup Leaves Broncos at 2-0 as Giants Slide to 0-2
There was plenty more Moreno magic on Denver's next series, when he again surged around right end to almost duplicate his earlier 20-yard scoring run with a 25-yarder. Considered a backup heading toward the season, Moreno was virtually the entire running game for the Broncos on Sunday and he made the difference. Peyton Manning also hit Thomas for an 11-yard score as Denver pulled away in the second half after leading 10-9 at halftime. Da'Rel Scott took a short pass 23 yards for a TD for New York to conclude the Giants' scoring. Our football refereeing guru is on Twitter and takes your questions during live events. See his latest tweets and his latest analysis . The sloppy first half was marred by eight dropped passes on both sides, including three by Welker. The biggest drop, though, came on a running play when rookie Montee Ball fumbled at the New York 3 to ruin Denver's drive from its 7 on the opening series. Ryan Mundy recovered in the end zone, with Peyton watching in frustration, his hands on his hips.
Peyton Manning wins Manning Bowl 3 in Denver Broncos vs. New York Giants
Postseason is the one area where Eli has bragging rights over big brother. The younger Manning has won two Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVP awards, with older brother Peyton owning just one of each from his days with the Indianapolis Colts. But in the early going this season, the Mannings and their teams seem to be going in opposite directions. Denver, one of the hot preseason picks to reach the Super Bowl as American Football Conference (AFC) champions, improved to 2-0. The Giants, winners of two of the last six NFL title games, fell to 0-2 in the National Football Conference (NFC). Peyton Manning leads the league in touchdowns with nine after tossing two more against Big Blue. He started the season with a record-tying seven scoring strikes against defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. Eli Manning leads the National Football League in interceptions with seven after being picked off four times in Sunday's lopsided loss. Peyton, who registered his two previous wins against Eli and the Giants while with the Indianapolis Colts, helped Denver take charge after a holding a scant 10-9 lead at intermission thanks in part to some adjustments made at halftime. "I thought we made good second-half adjustments," said four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Peyton Manning.
Peyton Manning release time can compensate for Clady loss
But say Clady is out the next two to three months because of a Lisfranc injury, his absence can be partially offset by the way Adam Gase and Peyton Manning orchestrate the Broncos offense. Last season, Manning spent an average of 2.5 seconds in the pocket, the leagues second fastest release time to Tom Bradys 2.3 seconds. Manning has been even quicker getting rid of the ball this year, although his 2.48 second release time ranks seventh in the league, as may NFL offenses are trying to hurry along their quarterbacks. The six QBs with quicker release times through two games (according to ProFootballFocus.com): Matthew Stafford (2.26 seconds); Andy Dalton (2.28); Carson Palmer (2.33); Tony Romo (2.42); Philip Rivers (2.45) and Aaron Rodgers (2.45). Rivers is no doubt benefiting from working with Mike McCoy, who was Mannings offensive coordinator last season. Gase, who replaced McCoy as offensive coordinator, has Manning and the Broncos going even faster this year.
And the family will. For me, its a strange feeling, Peyton said. Its not quite as enjoyable as if you beat somebody else. Peyton registered the victory following a massive push from Knowshon Moreno, who rushed for two touchdowns and 93 yards on just 13 carries. Denver (2-0), which has won 13 straight regular-season games, ran for 109 yards altogether. While Peyton finished 30-of-43 for 307 yards, Eli was 28-of-39 for 362 yards, but was picked off four times; he had 15 interceptions all of last season. As the game came to an end, the brothers were briefly seen shaking while a sea of photographers surrounded them. Speaking about it, Eli said: We chatted for 10 minutes, nothing specific, just brotherly talk. After that, there wasnt a whole lot of brotherly interaction.
NFL roundup: Peyton Manning, Broncos defeat Giants, 41-21
The Broncos were still contemplating their options with Clady on Tuesday. Among them: placing him on season-ending injured reserve or on IR with a designation to return, which would keep him out a minimum of eight weeks. That's a special one-time-only provision of IR that would allow Clady to return to practice in six weeks and rejoin the roster in Week 11, at the earliest. Either way, their new left tackle is undrafted fifth-year journeyman Chris Clark, who coincidentally signed a two-year contract extension this week. Clady wasn't in the locker room during the open access period Tuesday, and coach John Fox won't meet with the media again until Thursday. Clark said Clady's spirits are up but that he didn't even ask him how long he'll be out. "You know why? It really doesn't matter,'' Clark said.

3. MORENO IS THE BRONCOS' PONY ON THE GROUND: After being listed as No. 3 on the depth chart, Moreno showed his toughness against the Giants with touchdown runs of 20 and 25 yards on pitches around the right end. The Belford, N.J., back also had consecutive runs of 9 and 14 yards to spark a short drive after Chris Harris intercepted a pass early in the fourth quarter off the foot of teammate Tony Carter. 4. WEATHERFORD WOES: Giants punter Steve Weatherford is one of the best in the game. He was horrible against Denver, hitting line drives on four of his five punts, and seeing Holliday return one for a touchdown.
