posted 7/11/2011 7:50:48 PM Let me start by saying...this site is outstanding, nice work! I was hoping to find some information on my recently deceased grandfather. Below is the information I know to be true. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless you Grandpa

posted 7/11/2011 11:59:08 PM Hello there my name is Luke and I went to bing.com to try to find something which I figured you might have tried anyway. All I found was the obituary and my condolences are with you and your family. I live in Abilene and was hoping to visit the museum today but didn't get a chance. I will try to make it there in the next week or two and see if I happen to come across anything. I'm glad to know that you had an honorable grandfather fighting for a noble cause and hope that I can help you find any information. Just know that he was a part of something great that freed several people from German camps and tyranny. Let me know if you find out anymore info please.

Thank you for your kind words and help with anything you might find. I was hoping I might connect with other members in his unit or maybe their families. I know he was in the Service Battery. I will definatley keep you posted on anything new.

posted 7/16/2011 2:08:53 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Samfan, There is a book on the 493d Field Artillery. Click on BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES on the left side of this screen. Scroll down to the PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE 493D FIELD ARTILLERY. Also look at ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS. Click on Battalion and all the 493d will be found together.
Contact the Unit Representative to the Hellcat News. Marvin Bertelson 408-739-5958. He will be able to give you the names and addresses of men who may have known your grandfather.
