posted 6/18/2006 7:45:10 PM My father-in-law, Harold G. Ridgway was in Company A, 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, 12th Armored Division. Does anyone have any information on him? We recently found his discharge papers and found out he was a halftrack driver and was in the following battles and campaigns --- Rhineland GO 40 WD 45 and Central Europe GO 40 WD 45. Does anyone have any pictures of him or knew him when he was in the army?

Rhineland General Order 40, War Dept. 1945
Central Europe General Order 40, War Dept. 1945.

posted 6/22/2006 8:56:56 AM Hi Norma,
I am also a Legacy Member of the 12th Armored Division Association and have a suggestion to locate those who may remember your father in law.
Using Windows XP, internet explorer, others such as Netscape may have this feature, access the association website, http://www.12tharmoreddivision.com/index.html on the left side click ROSTER click A, the screen will list all members whose last name begin with A.
On the top of your toolbar click edit, a pull down menu appears, click “Find On This Page” a small box appears, “Find What” in this box type in, 56-A, then click “Find Next”. This will locate all members, one click at time, in A-56. Although the unit designations are reversed they mean the same. You will have to do this for ever letter in the Roster alphabet. Tedious but worthwhile
Develop a list, write or call the member. I suggest you call first and follow with a letter. This list is not 100% accurate, because people move the phone company changes area codes etc.
Good luck and please feel free to ask me any questions.
Regards,
Ken
