posted 4/7/2010 9:50:08 AM  Dear Joseph, Although your grandfather, Edward Wittenberger is listed on the "17,000 Members" roster as belonging to the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, this may be a mistake, because he says he fought with the 44th Tank Battalion in the Philipines. I wonder if he is in contact with any other veterans.

The 44th does not have a Unit Representative with the Hellcat News, which is the newsletter for the 12th Armored. However, there is a lot of material about the 44th on our website, including some Oral History Interviews, and some pictures.
