posted 7/8/2010 2:15:48 PM Am looking for any info on my grandfather Lexie Baker of Pound, VA who was a machine gunner in the 56th infantry. My aunt recently received a letter from someone who remembers that everyone, including the Germans, enjoyed Lexie's mountain style fiddling. My grandfather brought a violin home from Germany after the war. Thanks.

posted 7/11/2010 10:06:29 PM Hello, I am fascinated by the story of Lexie Baker. Do you know which company he belonged to? (A, B, C, D, Service, Headquarters?) Note that because of an error, almost all the men from the 56th who are listed in the roster entitled "17,000 Members" are listed as from Headquarters. In many cases this was incorrect. The correct information is on his discharge paper. Also, could you please find out the name and address of the man who wrote your grandmother. You can send this to me: Mike Woldenberg geomike@buffalo.edu Thank you.
