Wondering if there are any Oelz family survivors. George Oelz was killed in action in France........was 66th Armored Infantry Division and I believe a medic. My mother was his widow and I have their wedding picture and a few articles to share. Family was originally from Queens NY.

Hi Roe Barlow,

I am a Legacy Member of the 12th Armored Division Association and will attempt to help with your question. My uncle was also with the 66 Armored Infantry Battalion, which is part of the 12th AD.

Your question relates to a genealogy forum more than a military forum, but I still may be able to help you. First, George is buried in an American military cemetery in France. The name of the cemetery is Epinal. My uncle is also buried there as many of the KIA who were assigned to the 66th AIB. My wife and I visited Epinal in 2000.

I did a search on the Social Security Death Index website and found 9 records of people with the name Oelz. One record for NY and the remaining split between NJ, MI and IL.

I will pass your question on to the Veterans of the 66AIB with the hope someone will remember George.

Regards,

Ken Klinedinst
